Οι ΗΠΑ, η ΕΕ και 12 απ' τις μεγαλύτερες χώρες του κόσμου σχεδιάζουν να υιοθετήσουν «έναν στόχο» μείωσης των εκπομπών αερίων κατά 50% μέχρι το 2050, σύμφωνα με το προσχέδιο διακήρυξης των ηγετών του κόσμου που αναμένεται να δημοσιοποιηθεί την ερχόμενη εβδομάδα στην Ιταλία.
Το προσχέδιο, που διέρρευσε στην Wall Street Journal, θέτει ένα πλαίσιο διαπραγμάτευσης των λεπτομερειών για το θέμα ενόψει της Συνόδου του ΟΗΕ για τις κλιματικές αλλαγές το Δεκέμβριο.
Παρ' όλα αυτά φαίνεται ότι αφήνει κενά κάποια θέματα στα οποία υπάρχουν διαφωνίες μέσα στο ντιμπέιτ των χωρών που έχει ξεκινήσει. Το προσχέδιο, όπως αναφέρει η Journal ίσως υποστεί αλλαγές κατά τη ερχόμενη Σύνοδο Κορυφής του G8.
Σήμερα οι παγκόσμιες θερμοκρασίες είναι περίπου 0,8 βαθμούς κελσίου πάνω απ' τα συγκεκριμένα επίπεδα.
