Ο πίνακας καταρτίζεται βάσει των τιμών βασικών τομέων του κόστους διαβίωσης ενός τουρίστα σε κάθε πόλη και η ο δείκτης που προκύπτει έχει σαν μέτρο σύγκρισης την πόλη της Νέας Υόρκης.
Κυριότερη αιτία της ανόδου εμφανίζεται η ενίσχυση του ευρώ έναντι του δολαρίου, σύμφωνα με την ετήσια έκθεση του βρετανικού ινστιτούτου Συμβουλών για τους Ανθρώπινους Πόρους Μέρσερ.
